Inspired to use my imagination to make a difference, in 2012 I gave myself a challenge: a “30 day Christmas Challenge”, completing a random of act of kindness every day. I started this challenge believing I was the one helping others, but it turns out that I was the one who was changed by the end. In just one month I met some amazing people and gained a new perspective on life.
While the challenge was only intended to last 30 days, I realized that the true challenge is to keep kindness with you every day–so I’ve continued challenging myself to find other opportunities to help others and give back. In addition, I’ve made my “Christmas Challenge” an annual tradition, helping me to remember what the holidays are really about.
This series has one single purpose: inspiration. (And if you’re looking for inspiration, you can see my full list of acts of kindness here.) In one of my acts of kindness I visited a nursing home and met a woman named Ruth. I still think about something she said to me…”Love is a chain…it only takes one person.” I’m hoping that by reading my stories, you’ll be inspired to start your own chain of kindness.
